[Carbon Capture and Utilization](https://www.third-derivative.org/portfolio/tag/carbon-capture-and-utilization) [Cohort 22-1](https://www.third-derivative.org/portfolio/tag/cohort-22-1)

##### PROBLEM FOCUS

The heat from climate warming is stratifying the ocean and stifling natural upwelling, which imperils kelp forests and tropical seaweed cultivations globally, consequently risking global food security and life in the seas.

##### TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION

SeaForestation's unique deepwater irrigation technology directly addresses the impact of global warming and associated ocean stratification on marine vitality by providing cool, nutrient-rich water from the deep to cultivated seaweed forest ecosystems. Their innovative permaculture-driven approach restores natural upwelling and regenerates kelp forests, subtropical seaweed cultivations, fish habitat, and global food security—all while enabling measurement of carbon capture.
