ACCELERATING THE RATE OF CLIMATE INNOVATION BY:

Capturing atmospheric CO2 with minimal energy, supporting efforts to stay below 1.5°C warming.

PROBLEM FOCUS
Up to 10 Gts of CO2 removal will be needed each year by 2050, with Direct Air Capture (DAC) playing an essential role to help us stay below 1.5°C. However, no DAC technology has cracked the Gt scale yet due to high energy requirements, water consumption, land usage, and material availability.
TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION
Yama solves DAC scalability by integrating low-grade heat sources into a hybrid electrochemical / thermal desorption process to reduce energy consumption by 30% and Capex by 10% compared with standalone electrochemical systems. Yama uses low-temperature heat pumps and ambient heat to achieve desorption at temperatures <100°C, and integrates an absorption fan to cut water consumption by 50%. By using high TRL components from existing supply chains, Yama targets 550 kWh/tCO2 and $70/tCO2 at scale.
